ITBYTE-CITTAC
A Bit of History…
The University of Valladolid research institute Instituto de Terminología Bilingüe y Traducción Especializada (ITBYTE) was founded by a group of professors back in 1995.
Amidst its intense research, graduate-level teaching, innovation activity, and knowledge transfer, it is worth highlighting the numerous R&D&I projects in regional, national, and international calls for proposals; the significant external funding attracted to the University of Valladolid over nearly fifteen years; thirteen successful editions of the Master’s Degree in Specialized Translation; five academic years offering the Specialist Degree in English/Spanish Translation; research contracts with prestigious international institutions; and the creation of a Translation Center serving the academic community, among many other accomplishments.
In recognition of the significant work carried out by ITBYTE over nearly fifteen years, the Governing Council of the University of Valladolid, in its May 2009 session, approved the proposal to transform the reseach insitute into a University Research Institute under the framework established by the Organic Law of Universities 6/2001, of December 21. Likewise, the University’s Social Council, in its plenary session held on April 21, 2009, agreed to report favorably on the processing of the converting ITBYTE into a University Research Institute under the same law.
After carefully considering the circumstances, the ITBYTE Council ultimately decided not to pursue this transformation, primarily due to a lack of human resources, and instead requested the University of Valladolid to transform it into a research center.
The research center Centro de investigación en terminología bilingüe, traducción especializada y análisis contrastivo (CITTAC) at the University of Valladolid was officially approved by the University’s Governing Council on February 25, 2010.
